Compact House by Unemori Architects UnusualA compact house was designed by architects from the Japanese company Unemori Architects. The small house, in which a married couple with a child lives, is located in a busy area of Tokyo. The neighboring houses are very close. Nevertheless, the architects managed to develop a project adapted to the cramped conditions of a big city. The author placed a small house with dimensions of 4x4 m in the center of a plot of 34 m² so as to provide the interior with the maximum amount of natural light and fresh air. What he got is practically a tower 9 meters high. The interior space is divided into four floors, which are connected by a spiral staircase. The flooring used is thin (only 70 mm), so the upper and lower boards are fitted so that the joints are not visible.Nothing hinders freedompenetration of light and air into the house. The windows are located on the roadway side. The author of the project harmoniously fits them into the architectural appearance of the area. The windows are so large that opening or closing them leads to a significant change in the appearance of the rooms. Sliding doors are installed on the second and third floors. When they are open, the room is filled with light and fresh air. There is a feeling of no walls. By providing thin ceilings and large windows facing the street, the designer seemed to erase the boundaries between the floors of the house, between the internal and external spaces, the building and the city. How do you like this idea of a spacious but compact home for a big city?
