A cozy little house where the mother livesand daughter The cozy little house that our article is about belongs to the category of compact structures that are often criticized for their alleged unsuitability for family life. The area of most of them does not exceed 30 m2. However, we know that many people manage to arrange their life even in a tiny hut, and millions of families around the world are ready to put up with some inconveniences, but still live in a small, but their own home. Most often, you hear about small houses in which so-called nuclear families live, that is, families consisting of spouses or one spouse and minor children. Situations when representatives of several generations huddle in a compact area are quite rare. However, such examples also exist, and we would like to introduce you to one of them. The top photo shows Candice Ding, who 14 years ago moved to a rural town near Seattle and built a small house there for herself and her mother Baoying (you can also see her in the photo). In China, as in many other Asian countries, it is not unusual for adult children to live with elderly parents. The tiny house built by Ding’s hands allowed her to get rid of the need to rent an apartment and at the same time take care of her elderly mother. Here is what she says about her own project: “First of all, I thought that I like knitting and I love my cat very much. So I needed a place where I could knit and keep animals. I simply collected together all the things that were dear to me, that made me happy. This, in particular, was the folding dormer window, with the purchase of which the construction of the house actually began. Then came the stove and the projection screen…”Among the most interesting components of the house is the fenced balcony area, where the owner's beloved cat can spend time in the fresh air. Baoying's sleeping area is located on the mezzaninelevel, just below the dormer window, through which you can admire the stars. Candace herself sleeps in a small room next to the kitchen. She says that her mother is not yet thrilled with their small house, but is gradually getting used to it and even misses it during visits to relatives living in China. It is interesting that even older peopleare beginning to discover that tiny house living has its advantages. Ding recounts what her mother said about it: “The main advantage of a small house over a large one is that the former is mobile. It also takes up less space on the ground. And we believe that instead of building more and more, people should think about preserving nature and try to take from it only what is necessary. Our house and others like it are a kind of contribution to maintaining and promoting this idea.”This is a wonderful story that convinces us that family ties should be strengthened and developed under any conditions and circumstances. What do you think about it?
