The interior of a small apartment in Boston by Megan Flood

Interior of a small apartment in Boston:living room with fireplace The interior of a small apartment located in one of Boston's classic condominiums has irritated its owner Megan Flood for many years. The unkempt appearance of the old parquet and cheap finishes did not suit her at all. And only the location of the apartment in a lively suburb of Boston, which has the status of a cultural center, as well as the proximity to friends and the subway, prevented Megan from making a decision to move. She reinterpreted the space of the apartment, ennobling it with unique features and decor, maintained in elegant neutral shades. Thus, the interior acquired the look that best matched the emotional state and character of the owner.

Owner: Megan Flood Location:South End, Boston suburb Dimensions: about 80 square meters (two bedrooms, one bathroom) Year built: 1890 Megan has a refined taste and sense of style, but she still turned to her friend, designer Misty Gray of Grayscale Design, for help.Flood's job involves frequent business trips,Therefore, the girl desperately needs a relaxing space with a cozy atmosphere to be able to fully relax after tiring trips around the country and enjoy spending time at home. The soft beige sofa seems to be created for delightful idleness in a relaxing atmosphere. Large windows allow Megan not to use artificial lighting until late in the evening. She decided to rely on a neutral palette, and use bright colors to place accents, for example, in the form of pillows.Fresh flowers are a must-have for the days Megan is home, as is a selection of interesting reading material and a cozy blanket (or two) on the couch. The fireplace, still in perfect working order, fills the space with warmth and a cozy glow on winter evenings. Many of the decorative items in the apartment are Floodhave their own history. The owner especially treasures a painting of an elephant's footprint that adorns the partition between the living room and dining room. It is a reminder of a trip to Zimbabwe. The open plan concept suits Megan's love of hosting parties and gatherings with friends, as it allows her to host and entertain in comfort. Before: The living room was very cramped until Flood remodeled the apartment. The interior felt dark and dated, thanks in large part to the dull parquet flooring and equally dull chandelier.Updated flooring and a striking pendant chandeliermade the space sparkle. Sparkling crystals and exposed brickwork are a bold combination that worked very well in this case.Megan travels a lot not only becauseofficial necessity, but also for her own pleasure. She enjoys learning about other people's cultures, and the improvised gallery, made up of picturesque photographs, reflects this passion. The map on the wall above the sofa is a kind of report on the points on the globe where Megan has already been. In the near future, she intends to go on another safari tour of Africa.A large opening in the wall united the kitchen with the living room and became a space for a compact bar counter.Above the cookbook collection is a painting of coral that Megan brought back from her trip to Turks and Caicos. The kitchen is compact in size, but it is what taught Megan to prioritize and buy only those things that she truly cannot do without. The old backsplash was replaced with white polished natural stone mosaic tiles. Their ability to softly reflect light added sparkle to the kitchen interior. The result of the layout change is that now almost all rooms in the apartment are easily visible from the far part of the hallway.Flood is very proud of this console table.handmade, and even more so because she bought it at a bargain price at the famous summer fair SoWa Open Market. The laconic interior of the hallway is complemented by a mirror in an original frame, bought in the online store Target.Moravian star shaped lamp, welcomes guests in the hallway. Of course, it was the brickwork that became the key detail of this interior. But at the same time, it forced Megan to solve complex design problems. It was necessary to select materials with an eye on the expressive texture of red brick, and the choice of flooring turned out to be especially difficult. In the end, preference was given to parquet boards made of stained birch wood. The dark coating effectively contrasts with the brick, preventing its bright color and rough texture from dominating the interior. The compact bathroom is a model of functionality and smart organization of space. It has storage space and even a washing machine and dryer.Although Megan's official activitiesis done mostly on the road, she found it necessary to acquire a comfortable home office. The L-shaped desk is installed by the window in the guest bedroom. The fold-out sofa looks very stylish and modern, but the main thing is that guests staying overnight feel comfortable on it.The master bedroom's color palette is based on a combination of cream and muted blue tones. The visual softness of the interior is provided by an abundance of excellent quality textiles.Flood loves Boston and is truly delightedviews from her apartment. She deliberately hung a landscape by Sabra Field on the wall to create an interesting contrast between the village motifs and the city panorama.Megan's mother, Tina Flood, once took an interesting photo, an enlarged copy of which now hangs above the chest of drawers in the bedroom. Its palette matches the interior in a surprising way.Megan's jewelry collection serves as a decorative item. The condominium's exterior is quite traditional for the Boston area, with its distinctive features being an abundance of wrought iron details and narrow shutters painted black. At the initial stage of reconstruction MeganShe has often found herself in the grip of doubts about the appropriateness of her idea. But today, this determined girl is deservedly proud that the space she has created is a reflection of her character and lifestyle. What do you think about Megan's ideas?
