Plaster is most often one ofmandatory types of finishing works during construction of various buildings. Is it possible to glue wallpaper on plaster? Yes, it is possible, because it is the optimal base for strong adhesion of the paper base of the wallpaper. However, there is plaster that is an independent element of interior design, for example, decorative plaster. It is absolutely not suitable for gluing wallpaper.
Scheme for gluing wallpaper onto plaster.In any case, the wall surface must be prepared in advance. The strength and beauty of the room's wallpaper design depend on how well this is done. For the work you will need:

Pre-treatment of walls

They will have to be eliminated. If the walls are plastered neatly, you can only cover up light cracks with putty. Nails and screws should be pulled out or their heads should be sunk deep, and the resulting holes should also be covered with putty. If the walls are uneven, then just covering the cracks will not do - you will have to level them with a starting putty. Especially if you are going to stick not ordinary paper, but natural or fabric wallpaper, which require a perfectly flat surface. Sometimes the walls are covered with dry plaster in the form of plasterboard sheets. You need to fill all the joints that are always between them with a gypsum solution. When the first layer dries, pieces of gauze are glued to the joints and putty is applied again. Then, smooth out the treated areas with fine sandpaper, making sure that the entire wall looks like a single whole. Before gluing wallpaper onto gypsum plaster, apply a waterproofing coating to it. Is it necessary to primer the walls?
Is it possible to glue wallpaper on plaster without a primer? It is possible, but it is not necessary. After all, this is a very important technological stage, since the primer enhances the adhesive properties of the plaster.
Wall priming scheme.Surfaces should be primed twice: before applying the putty and before gluing the wallpaper. You shouldn't skimp on it, because it's actually saving on the quality of the repair. On a primed surface, the glue is distributed in a more even layer, and its consumption is lower. Primer is especially necessary if the walls are old, loose, and the plaster is crumbling. It is not required only on painted surfaces or those covered with finishing putties. The primer should be selected taking into account the conditions of the room: its humidity, average temperature, texture of the surfaces. Is it possible to glue wallpaper on walls primed with heavily diluted wallpaper glue, as is often done? Yes, but it is still better to use a composition specially designed for this. One of the best options is white primer for Pufas wallpaper. It can be applied even to drywall and painted walls. It dries in about 6-8 hours, but it is better to glue the wallpaper after 24 hours. Quality wallpaper paste
The correct choice largely depends ondurability of the result of your work. The brand of glue must exactly match the type of wallpaper to be glued. For example, if you need to glue light, paper wallpaper, then any composition based on methylcellulose will do. But such a composition will not hold heavy, bulky wallpaper - a stronger glue based on PVA is needed. You can glue fiberglass wallpaper only with a special glue. It is distinguished by the fact that it provides an especially strong adhesion of wallpaper to plaster, and it cannot be removed with anything except solvent. Useful information from the manufacturer, as a rule, always contains an indication of what brand of glue should be used to glue its products. Modern adhesives are produced in dry form and after proper dilution with water guarantee strong adhesion of wallpaper to treated surfaces.
