The interior of a small kitchen

The interior of a small kitchen. Modern methods of space optimization

The owners of this tiny kitchen (with an area of only5 square meters), located in a house from the 1920s, in one of the oldest areas of Moscow, wanted to preserve its traditional image, but make the interior more practical. Designer Irina Tatarnikova left the original configuration of the room unchanged, but significantly improved its spatial and visual characteristics through the use of a light palette, compact household appliances and custom-made furniture. Paying close attention to the functionality of the design, Irina made sure that the history of the house was still reflected in it. Classic, simple in appearance components, including marble countertops and MDF cabinets, made it possible to implement this idea, while the abundance of white visually expanded the space. Many will recognize the chandelier as a popular Soviet model of the pre-war era, although this is, of course, a reproduction. In order not to have to make changes to the layout and configuration of the kitchen, Irina Tatarnikova selected compact household appliances that fit perfectly into the design concept. A dark green Italian stove found a place near the exit. It was only after the built-in cabinet was dismantled that a full-size refrigerator, which the family had never had, could be installed in the kitchen.Irina understood that choosing ready-made furniturewould be quite difficult due to the limited space. According to her sketches, a dining table was made that fully took into account the needs and parameters of all three residents of the apartment. Thanks to this, it became possible to include a large number of cabinets in the interior. A compact dishwasher and microwave oven are hidden behind decorative panels. The low ceiling made the interior even morecramped, so it was decided to paint it with white glossy paint. The shine creates the illusion of depth and reflects light, which is certainly beneficial for a room with a small window, especially in the harsh Russian climate.Charming vintage interior of this kitchenThe ultra-modern black chairs, which fit easily under the dining table and do not clutter the space, dilute the space. A flat-woven carpet with an oriental pattern brings color and style diversity to the decor.
