DIY Home Decorationsare now at the peak of popularity again. And there is nothing surprising about this, since textiles sewn by skilled craftswomen bring a sense of coziness and comfort to the room. In addition, it will take only a few hours to make a throw for a sofa with your own hands. At the same time, you can take into account not only the requirements of your interior, but also the individual dimensions of the furniture.Figure 1. A quilted bedspread will decorate any furniture and create a cozy atmosphere.
Preliminary stages of work
If you have little experience and are afraid to take onlarge items, then you can first sew a cover for the chair. The sewing technology of these two products is no different. And when making a pattern, you only need to take into account the dimensions of the furniture. You should not immediately take on complex patterns of covers. As a rule, sewing of such products is ordered in workshops.Figure 2. Pattern for a sofa cover.A throw for a chair or sofa can be the simplest. Its production does not require complex calculations or paper patterns. All necessary markings are applied directly to the fabric. Nevertheless, the product can look quite elegant. Quilted bedspreads decorated with decorative stitching look especially interesting. An example of a finished product is shown in Fig. 1. To make such a throw for a sofa with your own hands, you will need the following materials:
- the basic fabric;
- companion material (for finishing);
- lining fabric;
- thin sintepon;
- contrasting threads for stitching.
Sofa measurements for making a cover.A sofa cover made of two materials looks very original. The center of such a product is sewn from a beautiful fabric decorated with flowers or patterns. And on the sides, wide borders are made of a companion fabric - a single-color material that matches the color. You can take jacket fabric as a base for the bedspread. It is already quilted and has a softening synthetic padding. In this case, you will only need to put the product on a lining. But such materials have a significant drawback. They contain a high percentage of synthetic fibers. You can make a sofa cover with your own hands without a lining, but such products do not look very aesthetically pleasing. In addition, the synthetic padding will cling to the upholstery of the furniture and leave fibers on it that look like cotton wool. It is wiser to buy cotton materials as a lining fabric. They do not slip and do not require complex care. Such products can be washed in a regular machine. For the final finishing of the cape, decorative braid, satin or embroidered ribbons, lace are usually used. The final decoration of the product depends entirely on your taste and available skills. Making a Cape Pattern
Figure 3.The principle of making a frill to decorate a cover. As already mentioned, making a cover for a chair with your own hands does not require preliminary creation of a pattern. All necessary marks and dimensions are applied directly to the fabric. An example of such a scheme is shown in Fig. 2. But before cutting, you need to take the following measurements:
- width of furniture (if the parameters of the backrest and seat are different, then the widest part is taken into account);
- length of backrest;
- length of the seat;
- height from the bottom edge of the seat to the floor.
Design of sofa armrests.The width of the finished bedspread will be equal to the first measurement. Then you need to add up the remaining dimensions and subtract the height of the decorative frill (if you want to decorate your product with it). Usually it is 15-25 cm. This way you will determine the dimensions of the entire bedspread. Next, you need to calculate the dimensions of the side borders, which will be made from companion fabric. Their size depends entirely on your wishes. They can be narrow (from 10 cm) or wide (over 30 cm). The borders must be cut out without taking into account the joined parts. The frill is cut out last. You decided on its height at the very beginning. And the length of the ruffle is equal to the width of the bedspread multiplied by 2.5. Such a supply of fabric is necessary to form beautiful folds. After all the details are cut out, you can start sewing the cape. Return to the table of contents</a>
Sewing chair covers
First, the curbs need to be treated.At the ends of the blanks, the fabric is cut at an angle of 45°. An obtuse angle is formed on the side (long) parts, and a sharp angle on the transverse ones. The patterns are folded with the wrong side to the wrong side and stitched along the cuts. The allowances are ironed. As a result, you should get a kind of frame. A part of the main fabric is sewn inside the frame. In the corners, the allowances are cut diagonally and ironed. Then the top cover is pinned with the same part made of padding polyester and basted along the quilting lines. If this is not done, then during the decorative stitching, the material will shift and the cape will be deformed. Next, the cover is folded with the lining fabric blank with the wrong side outward and a stitch is laid along the entire perimeter, leaving a gap for turning in one of the seams. The product is straightened to the front side, the gap in the seam is closed manually. The frill is processed last. It can be simply stitched to the finished product or formed into a ruffle. The technology for its production is shown in Fig. 3. The edges of the simple frill are folded to a width of 1.5 cm (first processing the longitudinal and then the transverse sides) and stitched. The workpiece is folded and stitched to the bedspread.
