A little carelessness in design can becomeKey Interior Feature The client asked designer Jacqueline Palmer to help transform the , located in his New York City home, into a place where he could entertain and spend time with his friends on the weekends, where he could fully relax after work. Palmer decided to play with textures and added an exposed brick wall, graffiti, a brown leather sofa, and a navy blue rug.
First look at the living room
Brick wall - rough but very stylishelement Neighborhood: Harlem, Manhattan Dimensions: 3.6 x 4.5 meters Year built: 1910 The most spectacular element is the light leather sofa. It adds brutality to the interior and creates a sensual atmosphere. This is a brand new sofa from a popular manufacturer, but it looks like it has always been here. The color and texture highlight the brick wall, and the warm shade makes you want to lie down and relax. This room is the center of the house. It is the first thing guests see, the space connecting the kitchen and the hallway. What happens here: romantic dinners, lunches, late-night movie marathons, video game championships, and informal get-togethers with friends. “I only had information about the room dimensions, a few photos and a video, and that was enough to develop the design,” says Jacqueline. Biggest challenge: Designing a room that's across the country from San Francisco. "We developed the design using email and Google Slides. Once all the materials were ordered and delivered, I flew to New York to arrange the pieces and pick out decorations and accessories."A small round table will not attract too much attention, but you can’t call it inconspicuous either. If there is no bar cabinet, a bar table will replace it
Game plan
“At first there was a sofa and a carpet, and that's what"We set the color scheme, and then everything else fell into place," Palmer recalls. "We ordered the upholstery and the main pieces (tables, etc.) online, and then we bought the upholstered furniture, paintings, and accessories from stores in New York."
Where did you start
“We started from scratch, getting rid offrom the existing furniture," the author of the project reports. And it was this approach that guaranteed an excellent result. The conclusion suggests itself that creating a unique and attractive design requires courage and a willingness to experiment.
