Sofa-bed with your own hands: step-by-step instruction on installation and assembly

A sofa bed is easy to make with your own hands. First, you need to decide on the type of construction. To make a folding sofa bed with your own hands, you will need the following materials:Sofa bedA sofa bed is convenient for small apartments, as it saves a lot of space.

  • Fiberboard;
  • boards;
  • foam rubber;
  • varnish;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • bars.

Step-by-step instruction

Drawing and dimensions of a sofa bed made by hand.To make the furniture, you will need boards 5 cm thick and 15 cm high. The back of the product is presented in the form of a furniture board made of pine. The upper edge is marked on it. A template is prepared in advance, taking into account the parameters of the components of the furniture. The next step involves preparing a diamond-shaped opening and the upper edge of the back. To get a diamond-shaped opening in the board, you will need to make 2 holes. Such a solution will eliminate the need to turn the jigsaw at sharp corners. The parts are sanded. A workbench is used for this. Using a milling machine, the front edges of the parts are rounded. Finished products are toned and varnished. The support beam (diameter - 22 mm, length - 1960 mm) is fixed to the mill. It is preliminarily reinforced in the middle, and then horizontally (using a fastening screw). The batten is attached to the bar with self-tapping screws. The backrest assembly involves the use of double-sided self-adhesive tape. The base for the mattress is attached to the longitudinal parts. Experienced furniture makers know how the folding type is. They recommend preparing the following elements from the furniture board (in mm):

  • bokovushki (38h350h830);
  • a seat (38х130х2000);
  • backrest (38х90х2080);
  • bars for strengthening the backrest (38x55x730).

The supporting elements, slats for the legs and back are made of planed material. The side pieces are fixed together using longitudinal boards. Furniture ties and dowels glued on are used for this. The back is made in a similar manner. The hinge joints involve the use of bolts and hex nuts. To reduce friction between the sofa elements, 25x8.5x1 mm washers are placed under the nuts. Bars with a cross-section of 30x30 mm are fixed to the longitudinal boards of the back and seat (for mounting the slatted base). Holes with a diameter of 10 mm are made in the wood. Then bushings are inserted into them, M5x80 mm screws are screwed in. The head of the last fasteners is equipped with an internal hexagon, which is tightened with a socket wrench. The next step involves fixing the hinged legs on both sides. This will require 80 mm screws. The planks are fixed with a belt tape. The measuring pads are made of chipboard. Special bolts are used to assemble the sofa bed. To obtain reliable and durable furniture, it will be necessary to fix the beams with glue. The last elements are pressed with clamps until the drying process. The cross members are mounted with screws. The armrest will be made from the latter product. The slab is placed on the longitudinal part. It will require (at a height of 16 cm). This will give the back free movement. Special screws are used for joints. To ensure the movement of the bed, rails are fixed (to the previous slab). Furniture rollers are installed on the lounger. At the initial stage of assembly, the sofa should protrude by 16 cm. Under the protruding part, 2 varnished slats (for legs) are attached, the length of which should be equal to 22.3 cm. The shield is applied to the box. Using a drill, make 4 through holes. The next stage involves upholstering the sofa with your own hands. For this, you will need foam rubber, a stapler, glue, fabric, a sewing machine. Batting is laid on all components of the furniture. Foam rubber is used only for a niche (if any). It is recommended to apply glue to the 1st layer of batting. Subsequent layers are laid without adhesive mass. If the elements are prepared, then they are covered with spunbond. The material simultaneously fixes the soft parts of the furniture, ensuring sliding of the outer covers. At the bottom, the upholstery material is pulled together with an elastic band and tied. It is recommended to cut the spunbond to the required size, taking into account a reserve of 5 cm (on each side). The product is fixed with a stapler with a similar step. The cover is sewn for the armrests. If the finishing work is completed, then the furniture is assembled. Rubber heels are nailed to its base. Return to the table of contents</a>

Frameless furniture

The frameless sofa can be conveniently transformed intoany type of sofa or bed. To make, you will need foam rubber (10 cm thick), 3 m of furniture fabric, 7 zippers (80 cm long), reinforced threads, PVA glue, a sewing machine. The furniture is presented in 4 parts. Pre-made blanks from foam rubber. To do this, you will need to cut out the following elements (cm):

  • 2 squares 80х80;
  • 2 rectangles 80x60;
  • 2 rectangles 80x20;
  • 2 rectangles 80x30.

The foam rubber is pre-glued together.The height of each piece should be 20 cm. Then the fabric is cut out (taking into account seam allowances of 1-1.5 cm). A square of 80x80 cm and a rectangle of 20x160 cm are folded and zippers are sewn in. The product is sewn together like a suitcase. Handles are sewn on the bottom (for carrying the furniture). The remaining pieces are sewn together using a similar principle. Foam rubber is inserted into frameless furniture after the entire product is assembled.Dimensions of a frameless sofa.A strip of material is sewn on the inside on both sides (the entire width of the sofa). The smaller the gap between the elements, the tighter the components will be assembled into a bed. Otherwise, the double strip is stitched on top. The next stage involves sewing the rectangles:

  • 2 pieces of 80x60 cm;
  • 1 piece of 20x120 cm;
  • 2 pieces of 20x160 cm.

Joining a 80x60 cm rectangle and 4squares 20x20 cm is made in a similar way. The resulting part is equipped with 2 locks 80 cm long. Before inserting the last element into the cover, it is covered with foam rubber and silk 80 cm wide. This will allow you to quickly insert the lock on the bottom of the resulting product. To get the 4th part, you will need to sew 2 rectangles with the parameters 20x30 cm and 20x80 cm and 1 rectangle 80x78 cm. If the foam rubber sags during use, then the appropriate layers are added to the frameless sofa bed or the foam rubber is unrolled. Leather, fur and other materials can be used to make the product in question. Sewing parts involves internal processing of seams using an overlock or piping.
