Recently, it has become increasingly popularframeless furniture, which includes the bean bag chair. It is very comfortable to sit in front of the TV and relax after a hard day at work. Some people buy this interior detail for children's rooms or for small living rooms where there is no space for a long sofa. Even in summer cafes you can now find such a chair. But in specialized stores, such furniture is very expensive. And it is very easy to construct a bean bag chair with your own hands.A bean bag chair is very comfortable to sit in front of the TV and relax after a hard day at work. A standard bean bag chair consists of 2 parts:
- inner case with balls;
- outer part with clasp.
You can fill the bean bag chair with foampolystyrene, which is an absolutely harmless material. In addition, it does not absorb water, perfectly maintains the shape of the cover, and is well distributed inside it. It is thanks to this filler that the chair takes a comfortable shape under the weight of the human body. Such balls can be purchased at a construction or furniture store. Usually, 3-4 kg of filler is enough for one bag, depending on the size of the finished product. Since the top cover is equipped with a zipper, it can be easily removed and washed if necessary. The detail can be sewn from bright fabric, which will perfectly fit and refresh the interior. The inner part with the filler is usually not washed.
What fabric to choose
Before you do this, you need toprepare all the materials. First of all, this is the fabric for both covers. It should be wear-resistant, pleasant to the touch and easy to wash. The bean bag chair can be sewn from velour material, artificial suede, flock, jacquard or tapestry.Bean bag chair diagram.These fabrics are easy to wash, very durable, do not fade and are breathable, easy to cut and sew. You can choose the color scheme to match the interior, make an applique or decoration for the product yourself. For the inner cover, you can choose any durable fabric made of mixed fibers, calico or satin, the main thing is that it breathes. The bean bag chair can be of different shapes:
- pear-shaped;
- rectangular;
- an armchair in the form of a ball;
Children's versions differ only in size and brighter colors. Return to contents</a>
How to sew a rectangular chair bag
This is the easiest option to sew, suitable for any interior. It is better to draw the pattern on graph paper (Fig. 1). Materials required for work:
- cloth for the outer cover;
- internal material;
- filler;
- lightning;
- strong thread;
- scissors and a needle.
Figure 1.A pattern for a rectangular bean bag chair. When cutting, you must also take into account the width of the allowances - 1.5 cm. Each piece will need to be cut out of two types of fabric. First, you will need to sew the back and bottom, sew in a zipper. Then you need to sew the bottom and back, then the side part and the front piece. You get a rectangle that needs to be turned inside out. To keep the bean bag chair in shape, it is better to sew edging along all edges or lay a seam at a distance of 0.7 mm from the edge. The inner cover is sewn in exactly the same way, only a zipper is not needed. A special hole must be left for the filler, which is then sewn up. The inner part must be filled with polystyrene by 2/3 of the total volume. To avoid sewing up a large hole later, the balls can be poured into the cover through a paper funnel. After all manipulations with the inner cover are finished, the outer part can be pulled over it and the zipper is fastened. Return to the table of contents</a>
Cutting and sewing pear-shaped chairs
This version of the chair is a little more difficult to sew,than rectangular. The pattern can be enlarged to the required dimensions (Fig. 2). In addition to the bag, you can sew a bone pillow made of artificial fur or suede.Figure 2. Pattern for a pear-shaped chair.When cutting, you get a small and large bottom, 6 wedge parts that will help the product acquire a pear shape. The inner and outer parts are sewn almost the same way, only in the upper cover between the two wedges it is worth sewing a zipper. But in the lower cover it is worth leaving an opening for the filler. First of all, all the wedges are sewn together, then the bottom parts are sewn to them. The product will need to be turned inside out through the opening for the filler or in the zipper area. The inner part is filled 2/3 with polystyrene balls. The upper cover must be pulled over the lower one and fastened. In stores, you can most often find a bean bag chair in the shape of a pear. In this case, the product is usually equipped with a loop in the area of the upper bottom. This is very convenient, for this part you can easily drag the chair from one room to another, lift it and redistribute the filler. Therefore, a similar loop, cut from any fabric, can also be sewn to a homemade bean bag. Return to the table of contents</a>
How to sew a seat bag in the form of a ball
Figure 3.A pattern option for a bean bag chair in the shape of a ball. Sewing this option will require more perseverance and time, because the pattern consists of a large number of parts (Fig. 3). The material for both covers can be selected from those listed above. An interesting combination of fabrics of different colors will turn out, in this case the product will be very bright and positive. According to the pattern, it is necessary to cut out 12 parts with five corners and 20 hexagons. All parts of the chair will need to be carefully sewn together, do not forget about the hole for polystyrene and the zipper. A bean bag chair in the shape of a ball is perfect for children. If necessary, you can reduce the size of all the parts. Usually, parents choose brighter colors and soft fabrics for children's rooms. For example, artificial leather will not work in this case. Sewing a children's product is no different from the adult version. The only nuance is the bar for closing the zipper. It must be sewn so that the child does not get hurt on the lock. Not only children and adults will like the bean bag chair, pets will also appreciate this product. For them, you can sew a smaller copy and fill it with foam rubber. Thus, making a bean bag chair is very simple. In addition, it turns out to be quite economical in terms of money, which is very important in our difficult times. You can involve children in choosing the fabric and sewing the product, for example, entrust them with marking the details.</ ul>
