And this simple technique is successfully used by designers when solving the problem of expanding space. The company Dubbeldam Architecture + Design developed a reconstruction project for Through House, a country residence of 134 square meters, located in the Canadian city of Toronto. The architects were tasked with making the most efficient use of the territory of a compact site located in a densely populated suburb. At the same time, it was necessary to create a comfortable and attractive living environment that meets all the requirements of modern life.
Wanting to preserve the existing garden, the authorsThe project involved carefully considering the possibility of expanding the interior volume of the house without increasing its actual floor area. As a result, the dark, cluttered interior has given way to an impressive open-plan space. Custom-designed elements, such as the original felt-lined fireplace, delineate spaces without blocking the view.
A whitewashed courtyardoffers great opportunities for spending time outdoors. Thoughtful detailing adds dynamism and originality to the design. Finishing materials and built-in modules emphasize the linearity of the interior, visually expanding and stretching it, and at the same time provide visibility of the adjacent garden.
However, the main role in the obtained effectOne important detail plays a role in the spaciousness. Panoramic glazing, which creates the illusion of unity of the internal and external spaces. Thanks to it, the interior of the house seems more open and illuminated, and the transition from the house area to the external courtyard occurs smoothly and harmoniously.
