Ghost House: A Mirror Installation in the US Desert

There are no ghosts. But illusions are a common thing. And, as it turns out, they are even found in architecture. Today we will look at an old house in the middle of the desert, through which you can see the sky. In one of the deserts near the state of California (USA), a ghost house is buried in the sand. At least, this is the impression made by the Lucid Homestead installation created by Phillip K. Smith III. The artist replaced some of the wooden paneling with mirrors, and inserted mirror panels with multi-colored lighting into the windows. Now the building, from whatever side you approach it, seems to be seen through. This translucent, almost ephemeral monument to the past fading into oblivion seems to embody in matter the very essence of memories dissolving under the onslaught of years. At dusk, when darkness sets in, the house makes its most powerful impression: the LED panels on the windows change color from yellow to purple. According to the author of the project, in this way heI wanted to draw a parallel with how sunlight changes the space around us. After all, the same object (for example, a mountain) during the day appears blue, pink, or black. demilked.com
