A place for an air conditioner and how to correctly identify it

Air conditioning in our unpredictable weatherconditions, a necessary thing. However, the issue of choosing the right place to install the unit is no less acute than its manufacturer. Today we decided to focus on the typology of air conditioners, as well as their correct location

In the summer period, the main issue is the choice andinstallation of an air conditioning system. There are a great many of them on the market today, but not every one will suit your home. It’s one thing to choose an air conditioner. Another thing is to find a place for it. We turned to designer and engineer Elena Petracheva to find answers to current questions about air conditioners. — First, let's look at the types of air conditioners. Depending on this, its location in the interior is selected. Window

The simplest and most affordable type of air conditioner,which is a monoblock cut into the window opening. Since the unit is strictly tied to the window opening, it will only be able to cool the area around it. And if there are also curtains on the windows, the space will be cooled poorly. In addition, an air conditioner installed in the window opening will reduce the illumination of the room.Mobile

This air conditioner is a godsend for people who shootapartment. Externally, it resembles a vacuum cleaner, is equipped with wheels and allows you to move it to any room. It must be placed so that a flexible air duct up to 1.5 meters long is brought out into a window opening or an opening in the wall. Hot air will be removed from the apartment through it.Duct split system

Duct split system is a powerful system,cooling several rooms at once. The indoor unit of the air conditioner is mounted behind a suspended ceiling, so in an apartment it can be hidden where the height of the ceilings can be sacrificed: in a bathroom, storage room or hallway.Cassette air conditioner

Cassette air conditioner is a popular option forpublic spaces. Its internal unit is located behind a suspended ceiling, and the visible part facing the room is a decorative grille the size of a regular ceiling tile.Wall mounted split system

This system consists of two blocks, oneof which is installed indoors, and the second is taken outside. This is the most popular type of air conditioners, they are compact and, thanks to various color options, easily fit into any interior. Let's look at the choice of its location in more detail.

First, be careful when choosing a place forair conditioner very carefully. Directed flow of cold air can cause illness, so do not install the air conditioner opposite the bed, work place or sofa group. Spending a long time in the flow of cold air will inevitably cause a cold.

Despite the presence of air conditioning, do not forgetventilate the room. An air conditioner is not a ventilation system, but only cools the existing air, and in an unventilated room the unit may be at risk of overheating.

Also, for normal operation of the air conditioner and natural air circulation, do not place it above windows or under a ceiling lower than 10 cm.

To make sure the air conditioner is not conspicuous, it is oftenit is placed above the cabinet. However, this is also wrong. Firstly, it prevents the air conditioner from working properly, and secondly, when it starts up, all the dust will fly onto people. The same applies to covering the air conditioner with curtains. Any curtain will prevent the room from cooling.If the air conditioner still spoils the appearanceof your premises, decorative solutions will come to the rescue. For particularly demanding individuals, you can find an air conditioner with a mirrored outer surface, models that can be individually designed, ordered with painting or printing, decorated to match the texture of the wall. The internal unit can be hidden under the ceiling or in a special niche decorated with a light grille that will not interfere with air flows. Or, on the contrary, accentuate this element, playing it up in the form of an interesting interior solution, for example, imagining that the air conditioner unit is a part of a spaceship in a child's room.

So, to ensure that the air conditioner works as efficiently as possible and does not cause any inconvenience, choose the right place for its installation. To do this, follow these rules:

  • remove anything that could interfere with the normal circulation of air currents. Placed incorrectly, it will not perform its functions;
  • Do not place the split system in front of the bed, and if there are no other options, adjust the direction of the flow to avoid diseases;
  • Avoid hypothermia, carefully monitor the temperature difference. This can lead to colds. Ideal is the difference of ten degrees between the one in the room and the one on the street;
  • The air conditioner should be placed so that it is easy to clean. Over time, the external unit becomes contaminated with dust, fluff, dirt. Regularly invite specialists to clean it.

Air conditioners are becoming more and more sophisticated every year.common in our apartments, making life more comfortable. If it is not possible to purchase a special model or install a system under the ceiling, try to choose a place where this item will not be conspicuous.The editors would like to thank the ArchDialog communications agency and Svetlana Kotlukova personally for their assistance in preparing this article.
