What could be more spring-like and beautiful thanflowers? The world-famous French artist knows how to depict them in a breathtaking way. We admired Claire Basler's paintings and even had the opportunity to ask her a few questions. At the beginning of spring, on March 16, the Moscow art gallery "K35" will open an exhibition of paintings by Claire Basler, an artist who depicts flowers and other plants. Her life is a continuous flower garden, and maybe that's why Claire is all aglow, and you want to stay with her longer and talk to her. After all, any of us would be pleased to surround ourselves with beauty! Related articles We got to see Claire and some of her newworks on February 9 at the exhibition preview at K35. We were sleepy that wet, grey evening, but our mood instantly improved when we saw Claire’s paintings. Each of them is imbued with love for nature and life, making us want to dream and indulge in pleasant memories. In a conversation with Claire, it turned out that this impression was not accidental. — My love for flowers comes from my childhood. My father was an architect, he knew how to appreciate beauty, so we always made bouquets and decorated our house with them. But I don’t consider myself a naturalist artist, I don’t paint flowers, but I try to use them to depict life itself. In my opinion, flowers reflect so well what we feel every day: our thoughts, emotions, weaknesses and strengths. And this plot is inexhaustible. To paint such beauty, an artist needsnot only inspiration, but also the appropriate environment. And if someone needs nourishment in the form of books, movies and constant communication with people, then Claire only needs flowers around. In fact, the main source of inspiration for her was her own chateau, where she once began to paint the walls and continues to do so to this day. Here, surrounded by her native walls and her own creativity, the artist creates new masterpieces. - In fact, I would like to paint a portrait, but so far it hasn’t worked out. To get inspired for something new, it’s enough for me to just be at home. In general, I really love housework - both inside and outside. It gives me strength and inspiration for my paintings. And of course, I need my favorite flowers nearby. Then I will know that I will succeed. Indeed, to paint flowers like this, you need tonot just love them, but also understand them, feel them. And Claire tries to always have plants in her studio, and not only flowers, but also trees, even just dried branches. All of them inspire her and become the main characters of her paintings. And yet, we guessed that despite her love for nature in general, Claire Basler has her favorites. And we were right! - My favorite flower is the oriental poppy, the one with the black core. I love irises for their complexity, peonies for their tenderness, daisies, because these are the flowers of my childhood. One of my favorite themes is wild flowers. And of course, blooming cherry and apple trees: they look so romantic! It may seem like nothing but flowers andthe artist does not want to see her own paintings around her. But this is not true at all! Her love for home and traditions, preserved since childhood, on the contrary, helps her to appreciate every thing, to notice the beauty of every little thing. Maybe that is why not only her works are so beautiful, but also everything that surrounds her. Her house, her garden, her life and, of course, herself! Many of the objects in my house have been with me all my life. I try to make the things I see every day comfortable and bring me pleasure. Then my home will seem beautiful to me.
