How to increase an apartment with the help of color and light: an example from Serbia

How to work with color and light correctly ininterior? What techniques should be used to create the appearance of a large space in a small area? Today we will show you an apartment that will surprise you with simple and effective ideas. It is impossible to consider color without light in the interior. They are closely interconnected and influence each other. With their help, it is easy to create the illusion of an airy and spacious room. This small apartment is located in Serbia, in Belgrade. Its design was done by the architectural bureau Pujo.Rs. The apartment is located on the top floor of a building built in the 80s of the last century. The main goal of the architects was to transform the outdated interior into a modern home. Since such apartments are not large, it was necessary to find the right balance in the space. Therefore, the experts decided to focus on the interaction of light and color.

Colors of comfort and tranquility

Judging by the white color of the apartment, it is possibleassume that people who live here are persistent and optimistic. They are multifaceted and extraordinary personalities. According to psychologists, people with a pessimistic character avoid white and will not surround themselves with it. The brown range, which dilutes the whiteness of this interior, creates an atmosphere of reliability and warmth. This is the color of solidity and comfort. It is liked by calm, reasonable individuals who value trust in relationships. Most likely, a young couple who recently started a family lives here. They are about 30 years old. In Serbia, it is customary to get married closer to this age, when a career has already been established and a certain outlook on life has formed. Perhaps he is an engineer-technician, she is an accountant, and their union is a consequence of an office romance. Their work requires special concentration, so at home they need an environment in which they can easily relax and unwind. Our opinion: - In conditions of space shortage, the choice in favor of such a color scheme is quite logical. Remember, the apartment is located in Belgrade? The name means "white city" in translation. Apparently, this also left its mark on the interior design.

Lighting design

Lighting in modern interior design is not the deciding factornot only aesthetic tasks, but also functional and emotional ones. It greatly affects a person’s mood. Diffused light encourages relaxation. You can see how correctly the artificial lighting sources are selected in the interior. The authors of the project were faced with the task of creating a relaxing atmosphere so that there was no unnecessary strain on the eyesight. We see that the lighting design uses spotlights, backlights hidden in furniture shelves, chandeliers and sconces. The combination of light and white, as well as small accent sculptures, gave the space an emotional coloring. Cute figurines hint that family and comfort are a priority for the owners of the premises. Our opinion: — Lighting that is close to natural light is considered less harmful to human vision. If the surface of the walls has cracks, unevenness and defects, you should not illuminate them. Otherwise, the light will only emphasize this. The white design of the room gives its advantages for including colored details in the interior. Gradually, you can revive and diversify it with interesting combinations (both simple and complex). In such an interior, accents can be not only furniture, but also flowers, books, sculptures and even clothes, which can be seen in the example of this apartment. If the wall facing the window is painted in a light tone, this will allow you to achieve the effect of greater illumination of the space.

Through the looking glass and gloss

Mirrors are “friends” with lighting design. They are able to visually "open" the walls. It is not without reason that mirrors are considered the interior windows. The light veil, reflected in the mirror, increases the space of the room. Glossy surfaces have a mirror effect. For this reason, such furniture was chosen in the interior. Also, the mirrors in this apartment make the space visually balanced, smoothing out the non-standard walls. Agree, the photo wallpaper with the image of the city looks spectacular, which is doubled thanks to the mirror wall and makes the non-standard room symmetrical.

A balcony for the soul

The balcony in the apartment is a great placefor relaxation. It became the final accent of the entire space. Warm colors and natural wood prevail in this area. Lighting design with diffused lighting was used here for evening relaxation. The proximity of light and twilight is associated with nature and creates a comfortable mood. The hostess of the house is passionate about flowers and created a beautiful "island" for the soul. In Serbia, it is customary to visit without warning. And in case of a sudden visit from friends, the couple has a wonderful place on the balcony, overlooking Belgrade. And in cool weather, they can hide in the apartment, sitting at the table, which is located in the contemplation zone. From here, you can freely observe the local beauty through large glass doors. Our opinion: - The interior of the apartment looks fresh, airy, simple and comfortable. The scale and proportions are balanced, there is a certain rhythm and accents. In many ways, harmony in a small area was achieved thanks to the correctly selected colors and lighting design. pujo.rs
