Diagram of the front fireplace.Whichever option you choose, you need to find the right place for construction. If the living room is small, for example, 12-15 sq. m, it is recommended to build a fireplace in the corner. A corner location of the fireplace is also recommended when for some reason you do not want to break the wall, building a fireplace in it. Fig. 1. If you are ready to make a niche in the wall, and the fireplace room is large, then it is quite possible to make a structure that is located frontally. Fig. 2. A corner fireplace is usually located in the corner farthest from the front door. And a frontal one is in the wall that is opposite the entrance to the room. As for the external decor, there are a huge number of different options using a variety of facing materials. This can be:
- brick;
- marble;
- granite;
- tiles.
Of course, this list is not complete.In case of frontal placement of the fireplace, you can simply make a niche with a chimney in the wall and decorate it with finishing material. Or you can provide other decorative elements, such as a mantelpiece or an additional niche for firewood. You can decorate a corner fireplace in the same way. It should be borne in mind that if you do not have the skill to build stoves, you should use the services of specialists. There are some subtleties when laying out the firebox. If the firebox is ready, then you can install it yourself. The main thing is to correctly connect the firebox to the chimney. A correctly built fireplace works in such a way that the smoke is not felt in the room. Return to the table of contents</a>
Living room design and fire safety
If the living room is spacious enough, then a fireplacecan be installed in the middle of the room. It should never be forgotten that a working fireplace is a source of fire, so you cannot install furniture or place other interior elements that can catch fire near it. The floor near this structure must be made of non-flammable material. This can be floor tiles, a marble or granite slab, or a metal sheet. Even if a screen is installed in front of the fireplace or the device has doors made of refractory glass, you should not exclude the possibility that a coal can fly out of the firebox. Very often, the walls of the fireplace room are lined with panels made of natural wood. This design looks very good and is quite common. The panels cannot be placed close to the firebox, as the wall around it heats up. It is best to line the wall around the hearth with a non-flammable material. For example, natural stone.
