How to zonirovat apartment with an area of 40 square meters: 5 tips

This apartment is zoned in such a way that itthere was enough space for a bedroom, living room, kitchen, small office and a small dressing room. How did they manage to do this? Details and recommendations for use - in our article The Moldovan design studio Curly worked on this apartment. The area of the room is only 40 square meters, which is very similar to our small one- and two-room apartments. It has all the necessary functional areas, and their placement is quite successful and comfortable. This was achieved by dividing the space with a sliding partition. It separates the living room, bedroom and office area. For additional insulation, glasspartitions can also be equipped with a light curtain. In order to functionally separate the office and the bedroom, the bed was raised on a podium, which also has a functional load. Many things can be put in the drawers. The kitchen here is very small, literallytiny, so no additional doors or partitions were made to clog up the space. The kitchen flows smoothly into the dining room and living room. And even the refrigerator was moved from it to the hallway. The kitchen is done in snow-white colors, which makes it very light. All the furniture is made of light wood, and the upper cabinets are replaced with light open shelves. And there is also a very successful coffee table in the living room. When it is not needed as a table, it can be used for storing things. Fortunately, the original design allows this.

Our opinion:

- There are many zoning techniques.apartments. Most of them seem to have been invented specifically for small apartments. They allow you to divide the rooms into the necessary functional zones, without “eating up” valuable square meters: zoning with open narrow and high shelves. Everything that you put on these shelves will separate the rooms, while maintaining a sense of space; zoning with aquariums. Most often, this technique is used to separate the kitchen and living room; zoning with partitions, as in our example; zoning with curtains is the simplest option. However, it is important to wash the curtains more often so that dust does not accumulate on them.

So, when zoning a small apartment, remember the following golden rules:

  • Of course, you can place an office in a small apartment, and a library, and a large dining room, and a huge kitchen will not work. No matter how much you want it. Choose the zones that are vital to you. If you work from home, make a small work corner. If you rarely dine in your home, the kitchen can be small.
  • Zone your apartment using "smart" partitions. These include narrow open shelves, racks, curtains, screens. In a word, everything light, thin, translucent.
  • Choose multifunctional furniture, transformable furniture. In general, the one that takes up little space, but can be a sofa, an armchair, and a bed, for example. Fortunately, they are inventing quite a lot of it now.
  • Try making open shelves in the kitchen.Visually, they will make it more spacious. And to prevent dust from accumulating on the dishes, put only what you use several times a week. The rest can be easily hidden in the lower cabinets.
  • Furniture made of light wood will look much better in a small apartment than dark wood, which creates an uncomfortable feeling of a cluttered space.
