When it comes to using a window sill, mosthomeowners show rare unanimity. Most often, it serves as a flower stand or additional storage space for rarely used items. It would seem that everything is simple, and there is nothing to think about. But a window sill in the interior can become a real stylistic highlight, and in addition, significantly expand the functionality of any room.

Window sill in the kitchen as an additional work area
The window sill in the kitchen is rarely used forstorage of unnecessary things, and it is quite problematic to grow flowers on it. Frequent drafts and heat from the working stove create a special microclimate in this room, which imposes certain restrictions on the use of the window sill. Window sill as a sofa or bench
Things are much more interesting with the reworkwindow sills in the living area. It can be turned into a beautiful and cozy place to relax. You can convert a window sill into a bench or a sofa if it is at a height that is consistent with the standard height of furniture - 40-60 cm.

For a simple transformation, it is enough to take care of the strength and sufficient width of the window sill and put a few soft pillows on it. Mysterious pets - cats - occupy an observation post on the window sills for good reason. Sufficient visibility, both internal and external, allows you to feel safe. So why shouldn't a person take advantage of this feature of the window sill? A reinforced and widened window sill can be covered with a soft mattress that fits perfectly into the interior, and then this place will definitely become a favorite area. And if you install a bookshelf and a small table nearby, then you will have to compete with family members for the right to sit on the sofa. Full-featured desktop
Modernization of old unusedwindowsill can make life much easier for a person working remotely. It is quite difficult to allocate even a few square meters for organizing personal space, but a windowsill can easily become a convenient work desk (Fig. 3).
Figure 4.You can place shelves under the windowsill to store various things. To equip a full-fledged work area, the windowsill must be wider than 40 cm - the longer, the better. In this case, you can place materials for handicrafts, a computer, a lamp, books and even cute and inspiring accessories on it. Expansion is also necessary in order to organize a place for comfortable sitting, because resting your knees on the radiator is not very pleasant. A windowsill converted into a desk is an excellent solution for both a bedroom and a nursery. This arrangement will provide access to natural light. In addition, the views of nature will inspire and stimulate immersion in work. It is enough to move a comfortable chair or armchair, make a cup of aromatic tea, and the work will boil. The best material for the tabletop of such a work area is natural wood or artificial stone. Corner of beauty
Every woman wants to have a fulla dressing table on which such dear little things will be stored. But the area of the apartment and the layout do not always allow to allocate square meters for the needs of the hostess. And the simplest, even unexpanded window sill will help to make the dream come true.
The space on the windowsill can be used forstoring perfume, thereby turning it into a dressing table. In essence, a dressing table is a simple shelf on which cosmetics are conveniently and ergonomically stored. If necessary, a chair or pouf can be moved up to it. All that is needed to transform a banal window detail into a cute beauty corner is the competent integration of the window sill into the interior. You can decorate such a detail with a luxurious mirror, a beautiful box and a convenient chest for storing cosmetics. You can also use non-functional side areas. Here you can install a bookshelf, a vase with a flower arrangement or a stylish figurine. Every detail should indicate that a charming hostess lives here. So that the new dressing table is not associated with a window sill, its front part can be decorated with a decorative strip or ornament. Extra storage space
You can continue to store it on the windowsill and undernecessary things, but to improve this area (Fig. 4). If there is a wide window sill, then you don’t have to remake it. It is enough to install light racks and shelves, perhaps closed boxes for systematization of items, and enjoy the newly formed order. The main thing is to ensure that during operation the appearance of the new storage space does not return to the original “where it was put”. The window sill, even with functional additions, should fit into the existing interior. Things are a little more complicated with the modernization of a narrow window sill. But it can always be expanded with an overlay, and it is not at all necessary that both elements are located at the same level. A small step will only expand the scope for the implementation of design ideas. In order for the role of the window sill in the interior to be fully fulfilled, you can combine the zones with stylistic accents, for example, choose a table lamp with a lampshade in the color of the bedspread. If the window sill is wide enough and has a depth of up to 50 cm, you can arrange a small chest of drawers under it. You can order or make a cabinet for such furniture yourself. In this case, you can combine, for example, a storage space and a ottoman. Such window sills in the interior look original and cozy. But you can use window sills for other purposes not only for reasons of functionality. Unconventional thinking and fresh ideas will make your home more comfortable and decorate it, make it individual. Of course, you should always remember that every minute spent on a window sill or at a new desk should be safe, so you should take care of additional window sash locks. Then no unforeseen circumstances will prevent you from enjoying the updated interior.
