Alberto Minotti on how to make design timeless – etk-fashion.com

"We can't get tired of something that doesn't exist" - this phrasedesigner Alberto Minotti shocked the editors with her directness and correctness. However, this is not the only thing that amazed us. Read the interview with one of the most amazing designers of our time and be impressed Alberto Minotti Alberto Minotti is the man thanks to whom stone in the decoration of facades, the absence of handles, sliding doors and many other things are now popular in kitchens. His main brainchild - the iconic Minotti Cucine kitchens - has long been considered a haute couture product. This is a work of museum-level design, while in terms of functionality it can only be compared with supercars. www.minotti.com Alberto Minotti began his story with the very idea of creating an exclusive kitchen concept Maistri. - The main idea is to hide all the built-in appliances and get a clean visual surface. The philosophy is that any equipment quickly becomes obsolete. In this case, it does not age, because you do not see it. You buy a kitchen for 15 years, and the appliances are updated every 5 years. My tie will never get old, because I don’t have one on. In order to completely change your thinking, you need to do a complete reset, that is, go down to the lower level, become children. Their strong point is that they have no backstory in their heads, they start from scratch. If a child is standing in front of two buildings - one filled with objects, the other empty, which building will he choose? The one with nothing. This is because there is an echo in an empty room, you can hear yourself. And an empty room also gives you the opportunity to run, play and move. Therefore, an empty space is more important than a filled one. It is more important to remove something than to include something in your field of vision. — What is your application philosophy?natural expensive materials? - Pure line. God gave us mountains and trees - nature. From trees we make wooden surfaces, from mountains we take stone. Then we simply combine wood and stone. No fashion, no fashion. Artificial materials are fleeting. What is not invented by man is eternal, this is what Alberto Minotti chooses: wood, marble, granite... There are no trends here. The currently fashionable thickness - or rather "thinness" - of shelves does not make sense because of their layout. Alberto Minotti himself came up with all the "tricks", thought out and simplified to the limit, and everyone began to copy him. And now he is enthusiastically talking about new kitchen storage systems.— These niches, for example, are just big handles,They open from all sides. I suggest the fourth type of door opening, not push-pull, not a hole and not a handle, but one large sliding plane. Note that the depth of the shelves is different here: 30 centimeters difference between the visible and the actual part. By playing with the height of the hanging drawers, you can make the niche either higher or lower, adapting it to what you are going to put there. You come home and don’t know where to put your iPad or iPhone — please, we have developed additional space. Usually, kitchens have a plinth 15 centimeters high — and this is the only distance that prevented me from building the kitchen completely into the wall, since air circulation is needed.— Your collection uses veryrich textures and textures. Tell us about them. — For example, black granite was brought from Zimbabwe and is presented here in a mix of black and blue. Such material can only be emphasized. To do this, we broke up the wall with decor - tiles of the popular size 60 x 60 centimeters. The decor plays up the accompanying surfaces, but not the kitchen itself. The lighting in the kitchen is automatically switched off by special built-in magnets - it goes out as soon as a person leaves the room. And the refrigerator is illuminated from the front with diffused lightwith light so that the last thing you would think is a refrigerator. Many manufacturers have copied the Minotti Cucine design. Factories that today duplicate the legendary kitchens receive a large turnover from sales. But Alberto Minotti has a smart solution for this: he “copied himself” so as not to give this niche to others, developing a new design for Maistri kitchens, and, of course, added a few more unique highlights. “It’s hard to make beauty on a budget, production and release for me is a personal challenge!” - Minotti draws another even line. The interview with Alberto Minotti was conducted by Oksana Kashenko.
