House of the week: rest outside the city

The main part of the items for this houseordered from skilled natives of the USA, however, despite its full compliance with the canons of the American style, this house looks very organic in the conditions of the Moscow region. This house was created exclusively for relaxation, there is not even an office. But there is a large terrace, 5 bedrooms, a wine cellar, a huge living room and a distinct feeling of warmth of the hearth in every corner. Gulya Akhmetshina and Sergey Barabadze Gulya Akhmetshina graduated from the Moscow Architectural Institute in 1996. She completed her first project of the house in 1994. In 2001, together with her husband Sergey Barabadze, who graduated from technical and economic universities, she organized the architectural bureau VIP House.

Layout features

Several new rooms were added to the original standard design: a “wine cellar”, a large terrace, a nanny’s room next to the children’s bedrooms, and a second floor was built in one of the children’s rooms.

Color scheme

The color scheme is based on natural shades. Lighting for the house was selected in such a way as to create a calm, relaxing atmosphere with its help.

Made to order

All kitchen furniture, including wall unitswooden panels, were made to order. The fireplace, the staircase to the second floor, the interior doors, the closets in the bedroom, the painting in the bathroom, as well as the painting on the wooden and stone walls were also made to order.

Kitchen

The kitchen was made according to the architects' drawings in the USA, the whole cycle of works together with delivery took 6 months. The owners were very pleased with the result.

Living room

For the living room, all the furniture was purchased eithermade according to the author's sketches also in the USA. For the most part, it was ordered from craftsmen on an Indian reservation. Such an unusual choice was due to the desire to achieve the effect of absolute stylistic identity.

Wallpaper, paint, textiles

For wooden walls, the authors developeda complex, multi-layer painting system that creates a patina effect. The painting of the stone walls in the hallway, on the stairs, in the wine cellar, and in the main bathroom was carried out according to the original design by artists Yulia Pokhaletskaya and Mikhail Nemtsov.

Floors

The flooring on the first floor is reclaimed vintage chestnut wood, while oak was chosen for the second floor. The floors were painted and finished by hand.

Doors

All doors for this home are handcrafted from solid mahogany.
