Homemade bedside table-swing: master-class

There is an inner child in each of us,thirsty for fun and mischief. Treat your little self by adding a real swing to your bedroom. We'll tell you how to do it. You can use a variety of things as a bedside table: a nightstand, a chair, a coffee table. But we suggest you approach this issue creatively. A hanging swing, consisting of a wide flat board and a rope, will not only serve as a night table, but will also help create an atmosphere of lightness and serenity in the room.

You will need:

  • rectangular board of solid wood (size 60x25x2 cm);
  • rope (length 6 m, diameter not less than 2 cm);
  • hooks for ceiling;
  • drill;
  • dowels;
  • measuring tape;
  • grinding machine or sandpaper.

Mark a drilling location in each of the 4 corners of the board. Place dots approximately 5 cm from each corner. Then drill holes. Their diameter should correspond to the thickness of the rope.Use a sander orsandpaper to remove any roughness or burrs on the surface of the board. If desired, after this procedure you can paint your future nightstand in any color.Cut the rope into 4 pieces 2 m long, 2m, 1 m and 1 m respectively. From the meter-long sections, you need to make improvised handles that will keep the board in a state of balance. To do this, thread the end of the rope through one of the corner holes and tie a knot under the surface of the board. Thread the other end of the rope through the nearest opposite hole and also tie a knot. Now do the same, but on the other side of the board. Note that you should tighten the knots and cut the ends of the rope only after you have made sure that the handles are the same length.Mount the hooks to the ceiling using strong dowels (at least 8 mm in diameter). Don't be lazy and take precise measurements so that the suspended structure doesn't end up skewed.Throw the ends of the 2-meter pieces of rope over each otherthrough the hooks and tie strong fixing knots. After that, tie the free ends to the rope handles made earlier. When working with knots, do not rush. Remember: a knot that is not tied tightly allows you to adjust its location, which makes it easier to align the hanging structure.If you've done everything right, you should end up with a charming piece of furniture that combines creativity, vintage charm, and obvious functionality.homestory.rp-online.de
